Rudd, Turnbull and where’s Joe?

Turnbull/Nelson - photo by AAP

You can smell the discontent fomenting already. Bubbling away it is like that feeling you get after you realise you sunk one shot too many and your gut is telling you it’s breaching containment; you think you could spew, should be alright but that nausea doesn’t go away and soon you just know you’ll be head down arse up in the can with that worrisome gurgling deep in your bowel making it uncertain which end the night’s overindulgence is going to explode. That’s the sensation you get with a Labor government.

Sure, it was all good to move the leadership from the 1950’s to a new milennium, I even hoped Rudd would win (I voted Liberal for reasons explained in an earlier post). But it’s the smugness I can’t stand and neither can the rest of Australia. I hate the do-gooder, socialist agenda these bastards have where they think they know what’s best for you. The state Labor movement are perfect examples of this massive micro-regulation of our lives.

Now it’s all about binge drinking. Good thing too even though I work in the liquor industry. So what solution do they have. Ban everything. Yeah, that works. Just like it did in the Prohibition. It’s the same feeble, pea-brained mentality they used to control guns. The problem is not so much the politicians it’s the whole shebang. People get the leadership they deserve and this is what we deserve. People just want to see anything being done. They don’t want to think too hard about it because the footy will be on soon and you can’t have your head filled with these distractions. So any action is better than none and banning a thing because clowns misuse it is easy and requires no more thinking. Better, you can tax the shit out of it and have it both ways. That’s the Labor way.

Now for Brendan Nelson. If you look in the OED you will find the definition for ‘underwhelming’ as ‘Brendan Nelson’. No amount of ear studs, motor bikes and leather jackets will make him look cool. Everyone knows he is a patsy to wear out the Labour honeymoon until it’s time for Malcolm Turnbull to make his expected and triumphal entry into leadership. The problem here is that everyone thinks/knows Malcolm is a tool. A smug rich bastard with a specific agenda that nobody likes.

That leaves Joe Hockey. It’s no secret I like Joe. He seems ‘real’ with a preference for steering away from the double-speak as much as he can. Even when he is put into a spot where it’s awkward to give a straight answer he acknowledges this openly. He has true leadership and a great humanitas. He’s also laying pretty low at the moment which is smart because to get a shot at the throne he has to wait for Malcolm to have his run and be exposed as a tosser. Then Joe will have his chance. My fear is that Malcolm will hold on too long and Joe will become leader too close to the next election handing Labor a disastrous second term.

The Turnbull/Rudd republican agenda will also steal most of the press for months and Liberal wiil not be able to present a realistic platform to the sheep-like population. Easy win for Rudd here. Fortunately, the state Labor governments will be there to wipe our arses for us.
